If any of you think that dodgeball is an easy game, and do not require practice, then you are wrong. I got to know about dodgeball when I was asked by Kai Mean if I want to follow her for dodgeball practice at the KDU Section 13 campus. She was brought by her sister, who is a senior in dodgeball. I was free after class, so I thought, why not? I'd just throw and avoid the balls, I thought.
TRUST ME, IT IS NOT EASY AT ALL. The ball which you throw, must be powerful and fast. And we try to aim the legs of the opponent, as it will not be easy for them to catch the ball. Oh, and in the game, all 6 of the players in each team have our own role - canon, counter, catcher...etc. There is also the honor system which we have to apply in the game as it contributes points. I broke a few rules during my first practice as I was unclear about them. And of course, I had to practice on throwing balls, powerful balls. The next day, my right arm and legs were sore, and the muscles went aching. The second day was worse.
And so I decided to join the CDL, as the girls team were lack of players. Then slowly, a few more girls joined, and finally, we have 10 people in our team. We all improved a lot compared to our first few practices. We were all fine, and ready to compete in the CDL.
Our first match in CDL did not went well. There were only 2 seniors in the girls team, and the other 8 are new players, and our very first CDL. We were pretty nervous in the first game, and the whole 15 minutes of the match was really fast. We rushed through everything, and did not perform that well. We were very, very, nervous.
On the second day, which was today, we reached the venue really early to practice. We then had a friendly match with the girls team from UCSI before the other teams arrived.. At 10 am, we were against the Vipers. This time, we learnt from our mistake - we played calmly. We then won 3 games in the 15 minutes match.
We were ecstatic as all our hard work paid off. Although we did not qualify to the semi-finals, the experience and all the teamwork we got from the few matches are priceless. All the laughter and cheering for the guys team has made me lose my voice.
Some injured their fingers, knees, and thighs. I injured my ankle, which is still swollen until now. Well, it was all worth it.
Coming together is a beginning.
Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success.
The most valuable thing I have learnt is teamwork. Teamwork beats everything. As the saying goes, many hands make light work.
