Coming of age

Recently, I made a documentary on Coming of Age. No, I did not do it for fun, nor out of curiosity. It was actually part of my IELTS assignment.

Well, the interviewing part is really easy. All you got to do is just prepare some questions and ask the interviewee, and of course, while holding the video recorder.

The toughest part of making a video, is the editing part.Despite my first time producing a video, where I am the cameraman, director, editor, song coordinator etc., I spent more than 5 hours editing a 10 minutes video, throughout the editing part, I enjoyed myself. Who knew editing would be fun?

WHAT IS THE COMING OF AGE, you asked? Well, basically, its the transition of a teenager to a more mature young adult. This means, you become more mature, and start taking more responsibility. It is also the age where we have to plan our future, and what degree or course to apply. It does not mean that 17 is the age of coming of age though. I personally think that it depends on how your parents brought you up, and what environment you grew up in. You can be 13 and already mature, and know how to take up responsibility. So I believe there is no certain age of coming of age, it depends on the individual. m

Through the process of producing the video, I have learnt the cultures of other countries on Coming of Age. I found that in Japan, they actually celebrate coming of age, and call it Coming of Age Day. It is held on the second Monday of the month January. And they're coming of age is the age 20, and somehow the men and women then get some money from the government.

Well, I think that my coming of age, is at the age of 18. This is because at this age, I started taking up more responsibilities, like driving to college or any other places all by myself. I do not have to rely on my parents on transportation anymore. My parents started going on holiday, leaving me, taking the responsibility to send my brother to tuition centres, bringing him out for lunch, etc. THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF HAVING A DRIVING LICENSE AND A CAR. No, that ain't sarcasm. I really mean it.

Hmm, so how was YOUR COMING OF AGE?
